Six Lucky Memphians Journey to Obama

In less than one week, history will be made. The country will witness the inauguration of the first African-American President of the United States, and tentatively, millions of people are expected to witness this special occasion in Washington. Since November 4th, 2008, supporters of President-Elect Barack H. Obama have been making plans to attend this inauguration. However, some have found great difficulty in achieving this journey. One of many roadblocks faced with going to see the former Illinois Senator being sworn in to the Office of President is finding somewhere to reside. Currently, the hotels closest to the White House are booked solid, and those that are not will run you as much as $650 a night. Right now, homeowners (and some renters) are taking advantage of this historical moment and are opening up their homes for the week for a small fee. Craigslist currently has dozens of options available for the week as low as $100 for a basement rental and some even exceeding $...

Wisdom from the mouth of babes..well, Lex.

I haven't posted any of these in a while, but I think it's long overdue. I would like to share some of Lex's greatest hits and misses for the fam. To my new friends, this is where I share some of Lex's interesting comments. Some of this is too good to keep to myself. My responses are italicized in the midst of an exchange, so you can see why I think she's been here before. * After a loud crash at Walmart . Ooh, what the hell was that?!? *Mommy, your toilet is dead. Call the partment people so they won't fix it. *I can't go to sleep right now, mommy. Why not? Because it's going to be morning in a minute anyway. Well, if you go to sleep, it's going to come here faster! No it won't. You just saying that to make me go to sleep. You tryna to set me up. *Call Granny so she can put me out. *THE DEVIL IS A LIE! (Yes, my child says that now). *Ma, I want to listen to Bohannon. I left the Bohannon CD at home, baby. LORD why did you do that, mommy?...

A Guide to Being a Lady (Due to Requests) ©2009 (Repost)

I saw this on a friend of a friend's page, so give credit to George Arnett for this. As the resident hellraiser, I'm going to list what he says and put my two cents in Italics because I heckle. And heckle is what I doooooo....it's what I doooooo. 1. Learn the Power of the Pump I don’t mean gas, but heels. Let’s just face it. Nothing kills a good dress like flats. Ballet flats can work, but if you are out on the town you need to wear heels. Or I need a doctor’s note. Um, I sing "F Me Pumps", but I don't own them. I nip that in the bud by not even wearing dresses 2. About the Holding the Door thing Yes, you can hold it for a man. And he should hold it for you. However, if you both approach a door and you arrive first, don’t stand aside and wait for him to open it. That won’t prompt him to open it any sooner. It will instead prompt him to call you a bitch under his breath. There is nothing wrong with thinking a lot of yourself, but having a horrible personality...

T.E.N. Entertainment Schism-ism for 2009

Image
It's my first official Entertainment Blog o' 2009. That last note doesn't count because I was relaying pertinent information. I don't give a damn if you think it was pertinent or not. Fie on all of you who doubt the pertinentiness of that last note. Alas, I digest. Keep hating on me and you get pics like this: HA! I scare you with her little body. Well fokes, it's only seven days into this here institution called 2009, and we have already had a lot of shiggity afoot. As you are probably aware already, John Travolta and Kelly Preston lost their 16 year old son Jett a few days ago. There was a bit of conflict about how he was found and what happened to him, but that's neither here nor there. The man lost his child. As of my last reading, he passed from a seizure caused by Kawasaki Syndrome, but because he was an Autistic Scientologist-raised child, speculation flew all over the place. Regardless of what killed him, pray for his family's strength. Also, the inv...

T.E.N. Entertainment Report, aka-Image Yoself!

Here are the nominees for the NAACP Image Awards. I'll be on there next year...LOL! Los Angeles (E! Online) – Professionally, at least, things in Jennifer Hudson's world are looking up. The mourning entertainer's Oscar may be getting some company, as the singer-actress today scored seven individual nominations for the 40th NAACP Image Awards. Hudson took home nods in both recording and motion picture categories, as did her direct competition—and onetime costars—Beyoncé Knowles, who bagged six nods, and Alicia Keys, who earned four. Rounding out the big-name nominees, and potentially making respective bee-lines for the podium next month, are Will Smith, America Ferrera, Queen Latifah, Jamie Foxx, Mariah Carey, Rihanna, Don Cheadle and Diddy. While the majority of Hudson's nominations came courtesy of her powerhouse vocals, one of her nods is for the Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture for her role in The Secret Life of Bees. She's pitted against Keys ...

T.E.N. Entertainment Hot Toddy, aka-2008 in Review

Well, I don't know where to begin, so I guess I'll just start writing and see where I'll end up. *This year, Lil' Wayne managed to stay relevant...so relevant that he has earned himself 8 Grammy nominations, and gone platinum as hell. He has also done more guest spots on songs than anybody else. I think he's a short, funny looking little thing, but I can't knock his hustle. I CAN, however, knock his face for being ugly. * Taraji P. Henson proved to us that she is more than just Shug from "Hustle & Flow" by earning THREE Screen Actors Guild nominations and such. The only problem is that in spite of having more nominations for said S.A.G. Awards than any other actor this year, the poor woman was seldom mentioned as the media focused more on Brad Pitt and the other actors who received two noms each. Booooo.... *Who'da thunk that Sean Kingston would lose weight this year? I ain't mad at him though. *Who'da thunk that you could make $75 a...

T.E.N. Family Pages, aka-Do This Thing Right, People

This is one of those serious notes that need to be read by everyone. If this doesn't apply to you then talk about it to someone that it does apply to. This ain't a holiday note, so if you aren't in the mood for some real, then this ain't for you. As a mother of a three year old girl, I find that I am responsible for her well being--physical and emotional. No matter how difficult she can be, I make it my business to show her that I love her. I don't hesitate to tell her all the good things she does and not dwell on the bad. My daughter has never heard me refer to her as "bad"...however, I do call her "Nutbush" because she is loopy as hell. Either way, I do not focus on the negative with her. I do not decimate her spirit because I want to build her up. I may not get everything right with her, but I will always do the best I know how. Not just because she is my daughter, but because she is part of a generation that will care for us. I want her to be...
