The Mind-Body Connection, aka - Mental Wellness

Image
For the last four months, I have been going through a major illness.  My body is not well.  I have been battling chronic headaches in addition to several other problems.  One day, I woke up in tears.  I ran to my primary care doctor and bawled my eyes out.  He listened to me and recommended an Infectious Disease Specialist to look into my case.  Much to my dismay, this doctor didn't really take me as seriously as I needed him to.  Combine this with a chronic foot condition leaving me in daily pain and an ortho doc unable to find a cure and you'll get someone who had completely unraveled. I found myself on a therapist's couch.  I knew WHY I was there, but I didn't really even feel right being there.  In the hours leading to my visit, I debated cancelling the appointment.  I was sitting outside in Le NewKon asking myself questions. "Why are you going to a damn therapist?" "Fokes are going to think you're crazy.  Wait.  They...

Why "We Need to Talk About Kevin"...

I had the great opportunity to watch " We Need to Talk About Kevin " Saturday, and it really got me to thinking.  If I had to bet on it, I'm certain that's what the writer of the book and those behind the film wanted to happen. It's been a long time since I had a movie grip me from beginning to end.  Every character (major and minor) help create an atmosphere in which you get to see what life is like and once was like for Eva Katchadourian (played wonderfully by Tilda Swinton). Reilly) and gives birth to Kevin.  I could ...

The Doctor is In, aka - You Need HELP!

I felt like really touching on the subject of counseling/therapy.  Maybe because a gang of fokes are crazy as a bag full of cats, or maybe because a gang of fokes are crazy as a bag full of cats. Did you know fokes are crazy as a bag full of cats? There are some very damaged souls out here, and I think that so many of the ills in the minds of said souls can be resolved with the intervention of a psychiatric professional.  I hate that because generational curses are real. Very real.  Crazy begat Crazy who in turn dated then married Damn Crazy and begat Mo' Crazy.  I know I'm cracking on it, but I am as serious as a heart attack when I say that a lot of the issues we face are best resolved by a person trained and educated in dealing with our minds. We have all heard the stories of people's exes and all the foolery that they took someone through.  I wonder if many of these catastrophic breakups (or relationships altogether) could be avoided if the parti...
