A Brief Memphis Rant, aka-Get the HELL Out of My City

Image
I went to look at the picture of the new KROC Center in Memphis. What bothered me is how many Memphians were making comments such as "the urban demographic will destroy it" and "it won't be nice long". With all due respect, if you hate the damn city that much, please leave.  Yes, I just pulled a Willie Wilbert Herenton. If you don't like it, please move away. Seriously. Here is a little bit of my reasoning.  Pardon me if the vernacular is a bit "touched". I'm a wee pissy right now. Got my pressure all up... 1. Crime is everywhere. Yeah, crime is better some places and other places is like the Wild Wild damn West. Some of the biggest complainers about crime will NOT call the proper authorities as long as the crime is not committed against them or near where they reside.  So yeah, it's okay to see crime committed at Southland Mall because you don't go there.  But when someone's car is broken into at Collierville T

Happiness...The Road that Winds its Funky Ass as Far Away From Us As it Can..

..until we finally catch on that happiness starts from inside of ourselves.. I need to quit talking on the phone to people because I get revelations like this.  I think people these days are unhappier than ever before because they refuse to deal with themselves.  We buy all kinds of unnecessary sheet, we surround ourselves with an entourage of "Yes (Wo)Men", we get THE position and we toot up on Facebook about what all is magnificent in our lives...and deep down in the pits of our stomachs, we are unhappy as hell. People have access to more distractions than ever, and it serves as a nice temporary fix.  I think of those distractions as being a Band Aid.  Band Aids are used to cover an injury while it heals...and we even have different sizes and colors to make things look good while it heals.  However, would you put a Band Aid on a dislocated shoulder?  Would you put a Band Aid on a stab wound?  In those instances, you would seek a treatment that would put that shoulder b

Rampant Assholery, aka-Why So Assholish?

I don't know if you noticed or not, but I have spurts of writing. I'll be all like "WRITER'S BLOCK" then next I'll be like "FOUR BLOGS IN TWO DAYS". So today's few thoughts on me blog comes from yet another gang o' conversations and Facebookery. It appears that these days, people are just mean assholes for no other reason. Well, I think there are some reasons for SOME peoples blistering assholery...like a severe need for extensive therapy, or a touch of the Iyanla. I've noticed that it seems so easy for fokes to conjure up negativity in situations that do not require any. Not only do they conjure it, they then follow up the conjure with a need to share the negativity. It happens so much online, which sucks because the internet used to be fun back in the days of Collegeclub and Blackplanet. Hmm. I would look and see if Collegeclub is still up, but I'm scared of seeing a twat pop up on my screen. ANYHOO I have seen so mu

..because the shit is AstroTurf .. I think only a small part of the population can say that they do not have one ounce of that green-eyed monster in them...and mean it.  I believe that all humans have a little bit of envy in them.  They see people driving their dream cars and wish they could have them...like I wish I could have the sexy Tahoes/Yukons/Suburbans/Yukon XL's that I see around this great city.. ..you know I saw a damn Yukon for $17k and that sumgun was IMMACULATE! BEAUTIFUL EVEN! *creys* Sorry. Still dreaming about SUV's of love. ANYHOO. What makes some souls different from others is the fact that some of us are fully aware that what we see is but the surface.  Yeah, I do have Tahoe/Yukon dreams, but I know that a few cats with the new ones are paying a grip per month or put a grip down for that.  I know that the big houses that people are getting blessed with come from years of hard work or damn fine credit. In short...there is much more
